Can QTTabBar be enabled to work in the "open file" box dialogue in programs like Microsoft Excel? I hate having to search for the files I want to open in different directories on different hard drives. I used to use a program called XFilesDialog in XP that did this.

Totally agree
Actually I was about to suggest that, but somehow I forgot =)
Shareware:
Direct Folders <— This is the one that is the closest thing to how QTTabBar's desktop tool would (should?) work for Open dialogs as you can double click anywhere and open a link in virtually any type of Open dialog. I think this has exactly the functions that you are wishing for in QTTabBar, right? :)
Me too! :)
Some other cool free programs that add favourites to Open dialogs. DM2 is my favourite as it has many other features. Look out for FlashFolder though, a new version is coming that promises some massive improvements.
Thank you so much for the information. Do you know if all of these work with Vista? Particularly Vista 64?
I wouldn't know.
I chose to run FileBox eXtender after trying all the ones recommended in this thread. However, now I cannot get QTTabBar to run! I got it to run in my Vista 32 Basic but it is no where to be found in Vista 64 Premium even though it installs with no error messages.
I prefer FlashFolder.
