How does "selective text" work?

How does "selective text" work?

I just was experimenting with the tabbar and I realized I never used the feature "selective text" in the button options.

Now it displays text labes for some symbols but not for all. How is it decided which buttons get text labels and which don't ?

(I hope you geht what I mean ;))

I gave text labels to those buttons I love :)

Seriously, I didn't understand how Explorer decided to add labels to toolbar buttons.
MS programers gave labels to their favorite buttons, I suppose.
(Honestly I also never used the feature)

As for plugin buttons, author of the plugin can decide it.
