If anyone has QTTabBar alternatives for windows 7 i would really appreciate it if you would post it here. Every one loves QTTabBar and it works perfectly but till they make it for windows 7 or make a fix, i would like to use a alternative tab bar thats sort of like QTTabBar. Anyone that has something like QTTabBar please post it here thanks, it doesnt have to have the same features just a tab bar.
Good question. I've used QTTabBar in Vista since about March 2007. It remains central to my file operations in Vista 32 and 64-bit. During this time I also acquired a license for xplorer² Pro. It's a full featured dual-pane file manager than can render multiple tabs in each of the two panes. Powerful and fast. It also costs $30.
The 'lite' version distributed without cost is dual-pane and even does tabs. What's to complain: a drive drop down list rather than an independent drive bar; no custom toolbars and custom icons, uses Windows Search, etc. But did I mention it's free.
So, at this time, I believe xplorer² lite will reliably take over most of the functions of QTTabBar in 7.
Long live Quizo! but if he isn't with us now, long live our gratitude for his superb TabBar.
Just another Junk Explorer Replacement, I don't get these developers who make shit explorer replacements. Its like they don't even think, they just come up with the same crap as the rest, rank amateurs.
I looked at a few alternatives, the best for me is by far UltraExplorer:
http://www.mustangpeak.net/download.htm
It has a few kinks, but also some nice additional features like dual pane view, column view, a drop box and user-defined grouping. It's freeware, apparently open source and is even portable.
I hope Quizo is well or at least getting there.
Ultra Explorer and Free Commander etc are OK up to a point.
But, none of them have an UNDO button like Windows Explorer has.
I have gratefully used the undo button many times in Explorer when accidentally moving a file & not knowing where it went, not to mention accidential deletions.
Quizo's QT Tabbar was the only one that actually integrated properly with Explorer and it was great with Vista.
I especially liked the plugin that gave us back the command bar buttons that XP had.
I hope that a Windows 7 version of QT Tabbar can be produced.
I agree, EACH AND EVERY explorer replacement is crap. And I tried like 20 since I switched to 7 months ago.
I had hopes for Win 7 but it's just a few good ideas and the usual crap without any consistency. It's a fucking tragedy. I work a lot with files/explorer so I even do the extra step to enable qttabbar for each window. My next machine will be a Mac because there's a maintained tab extension for the finder.
XYplorer has undo with the latest iteration. It actually has multiple undo system… you can open the action log, and let's say if you had 5 actions, just undo action 3 and 4 and leave the rest.
I've also tried many explorer replacements, most were overly complicated, most relied too much on buttons for every seperate action etc., but XYplorer has become my main app now… even in XP boxes where I have QTTabBar.
It's very simple and functional out of the box, and you can configure the more advanced stuff as you go on. I love the intuitive folder view saving for directories/subdirectories etc, the labeling and commenting stuff, the "mini tree" is extremely good (using folder trees in win. explorer is painful now), filtering is very intuitive (no need to go into menus/buttons) just type |*.txt etc at the location bar and you are done. Plenty of such intuitive features and context sensitivity make it a little more logical than most other explorer replacements.
I really miss it on other computers, and even the win. explorer with QTTabBar in my XP box feels like a dinosaur now.
Downside? no free version :/
I recently found a small tool still in development called WindowTabs, its still very limited in comparison with QTTabBar but give it a try.
It's also $20. I'll still try it, but it better be good for $20.
I've tried UltraExplorer, but I can't stand that it doesn't use the explorer overlays (SVN) or the Explorer context menu. I use it for simple file browsing/copying, but when doing development, I have to have multiple explorer windows open.
Check out this new program, Classic Shell, still in beta testing, but quite stable as I have it installed on my Win7 Explorer. http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/
It adds a classic start menu to Win7 as well as adds some of Explorer's menu bar buttons.
With some futher communication to the programmer, tabs might be in the future.
cubic explorer http://www.cubicreality.com/ is another free tabbed explorer alternative which is stable under Win 7. i don't think it has undo functionality, but quite a good free tool which i use. less clunky than ultra explorer, though i used ultra explorer for two years and quite happy with it.
Windows Double Explorer
Windows Double Explorer manages two or more Windows Explorer in one application. Also you can add your favorite folders with drag and drop to the toolbar for quick access. It's easyier to manage your disc structure. (A kind of Norton Commander or Total Commander)

Is there WDS(Windows Destop Search) integration in any of these file managers?
For add tabs to Explorer.exe i use this, see the video: http://megavideo.com/?v=NKBL6RBB
And download here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9WX6V7X4

Works fine. It is extremely simple tho, no options at all for it, but will suffice until quizo updates qttabbar (or someone else makes something better)
Will try it thanks
It works ! Thanks man and I hope there in the future there is a translation available :)
thx!!
I've translate most part from the japanase tabs explorer. It is not qttabar but it is a plugin (like qttabar) not a stupid explorer replacemnt like explorer^2 or ultra explorer or all that crap.
It was not and easy task translate it, it has not data drived this text but in code!!!, so I' have to use an hex editor (if I violate some copyright sorry :-D).
Next days I am uploading it.
Greetings.
It'll be good to have HookDNet in English while we all wait for QTabBar to come out for Windows 7
Is this done yet?
Same question here… It would be great to have a translated version.
Voskyc, would you please upload your english version? Thanks!
Thanks everybody for the great programs but i don't think anything can compare to qttabbar its just so great. I just didnt like the programs because they seemed so complicated to use on a everyday basis and i didnt want to use a program just to use tabs. When i first started this post i didnt think i would get so many people telling me so much stuff. I tried almost every program on here and i would have to say qttabbar was the best for integrating into the explorer.exe frame and the functionality. Thanks for everybody's help in trying to find a alternative for windows 7.
You can get the new version for Windows 7 here;
that link doesn't work.
Indeed, seems to be offline right now, but the download still works;

Thank you, guy!
