I just reformatted my HD and installed the latest version of QTTabBar.

In my earlier installation, if I had an explorer window open and then opened a new explorer window, it would open as a new tab in the existing window. Now what happens is that if I have an explorer window open and then open a new explorer window, it opens as a new window. I have to manually merge the open explorer windows by right clicking on the QtTabBar window and selecting "Merge tabs of other windows".

How do I get the new explorer window to open as a new tab in the existing explorer window by default?

Any help appreciated.

Right Click and check Options, there is some option which says open new window and tabs or something, sorry can't remember because Im on Windows 7 since last year and it doesn't work on windows 7

Thanks for your reply. I actually posted after having played around with all the options, so unless someone can tell me exactly which option to select or unselect, the problem remains…

In explorer folder options..there is a check box that should be unselected..something like run explorer in separate instances…it will catch all windows properly

Well i have the same problem and i do this to fix it:

Right Click> Options> Window>

The 7° Option must be uncheck to make the new windows open like tabs in only one window.

I'm sorry i use a languaje pack so i can tell you exactly who option is, but with i told you, i think you can do it.

I still cannot make it work! Any other suggestions (I couldn't actually understand the first fix). I'm running a XP Pro SP3…

Have same problem's (XP SP3)

This software is suppose to make tab's not new windows.
Where's the new tab button / arrow or if I right click on a tab, I should be
able to select a new tab.

Hi guys,

I found the solution

In qttabbar options, go to the "window" tab, then :
- check "capture new explorer processes"
- uncheck "do not capture window as a new tab when opened from outside"

Can't you just use the "Clone this" instruction from the 'QT Tab Standard Buttons' to set a cloned tab on the task bar, then go to whatever folder you need?

Should have said using "Clone this" by right-clicking on the existing tab, as it's quicker.

Is it to do with whether (in Explorer) you right-click 'Open' or right-click 'Explore'?

In my Vista Home Premium I get a new Explorer tab with R-C 'Open' but just a refocus of the existing tab with R-C 'Explore'.

I don't get a new window at all unless I choose that selection via QT.

I may be different from your setup because in the past I think I changed the default Explorer folder opening option from 'Open' to 'Explore'.

In XP that can be done as shown here http://www.winxptutor.com/folderpane.htm but at the moment I can't remember how I accessed that folder option in Vista, as it doesn't appear in 'File types'.

Just a possibility, as I've only recently discovered QTTabBar and am unsure how many options I've changed from default - and I don't want to uninstall/reinstall at the moment.

TESTED on XP SP3 with QTTabBar 1.5.0.0 Alpha 5 THIS WORKS 100%

Look no further… THIS IS THE SOLUTION:

1) In QTTabBar Options —» Window (tab) uncheck the "Do not capture window as a new tab when opened from outside" option

2) In Windows Explorer —» Folder Options —» View (tab) uncheck the "Launch folder windows in a separate process" option

No need to reboot, logoff, nothing. It will work right away!

It works great now!

I followed the 2 easy steps you indicated, then I closed the Explorer window I had open (to enable the changes) and when I reopened any Explorer window it worked 100% just as you said!
