The preview pane in the start menu toolbars doesn't work in windows 10 edition?
Hello:
You might have to install a codec pack like "media player codec pack v4.3.8" or "k-lite"
This is mentioned on the home page under docs and help..
Thanks for the reply mate. I think we have a misunderstanding. See below image:

In windows 7 I would either use that context menu, or a context menu that was key mapped. This for me would eradicate the main usage of explorer. Then with the preview tooltip in QTTABAR I'd could just scroll through the folders. I never had luck with video files in the past though it was never a concern. I use your preview option for images, and text files normally.
Sorry bro:
I can't get your screen snap to show up and I'm really not sure what feature your trying to get at. I'm not using win 10
so if its special to that system you might want to let someone else take a jab at it.
Maybe something in the themes needs enabled like how 7 had areo and live preview.
Unless when you say "context menu" your refering to the "desktop tool" and how to activate that.
Meaning: The folder menu that comes up when you double click on the desktop. If not just disregard me.
You have to take out the spaces between .org … I've all ways kept themes disabled in the services and put the computer into performance mode so I believe the function is independent of that.
This does have nothing to do with the desktop, and I am an idiot I've been saying startmenu (like how I put preview pane instead of tool tip) this has nothing to do with the breadcrumb. It is the taskbar I am referring too. My bad.
Right-Click Taskbar
Goto Toolbars
New Toolbar
Add "C:/" or other folder.
Proceed to navigate folder on the taskbar
I know the preview tip never worked with the breadcrumb but I was able to have it on the taskbar and other independent context menus for folders such as ones that for example "Emerge desktop" would emulate. Thanks for the reply!
Ok, Lol. I'm am an idiot also.
Does the preview window work at all. Ie..When you hover over a file for set amount of time.
If this works then the other should also.
Maybe check these:
1.)Settings under Preview for time, position and opacity
2.Preview has to be enabled. That is a button you can add to the toolbar that turns preview on/off.
3.)Check setting for "Menu opacity" When you right click on the taskbar, Q Icon you should see "Menu opacity". Needs to be above 10%
This is the same feature that the "desktop tool" uses. You might see about enabling it.
Maybe we have a bug and no one else has posted about yet.
OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG SORRRY this is the third god dang time writing this out. First time was the browser, second time was your toolbar.
I don't to write this again but god dangit ok sorry this is a massive misunderstanding. Cause this feature works in the submenus for txt, pictures, even mp4 files the only thing that doesn't work is webms.
Anyways moving on I realised that you meant in the QTTABBAR Preferences not actually in windows. Now entails the first step of my confusing.
The context of how to enable the Desktop Tool is confusing to say the least. It is written as;
** it crashed again but I saving as I go now
deep breathes
"To enable 'Desktop Tool', right-click on taskbar to show context menu and select 'Toolbars' -> 'QT Desktop Tool'."
Which takes me to part two of my confusion. I've enabled this thing before actually funny enough. I just thought it was a broke feature though as nothing ever shows up unless you hover over near the systray where a Q will pop-up.
Anyways this time I decided to right-click as left-click never did anything. And sure enough a menu populates and you have to goto into "How to display menu" and chose right-click on taskbar for it to work. Here I now all so understand your references to double-click the desktop which I failed to understand. Everything works now as I expected-ish.
-No preview in recent files
-Will crash explorer if file is too big
I'd still enjoy it if the native taskbar toolbars would work for tooltip previews as did the other versions as it is a lot more responsive then the QTTAB Desktop Tool, that's just me complaining sorry. lol
And just to note the response delay is only for the taskbar list population once it opens everything is fast otherwise. Thanks again for all your help.
One more thing, last thing really if there was a shortcut key for that 'Desktop Tool' where you could just it by keyboard that'd make it stand out as the best option. Especially if it was through the explorer.exe versus shell that way you could use the 'Desktop Tool' with or without a taskbar.
ima go crazy problems everywhich way. Writing out post on sites shouldn't take 2-3 hours:
The context of how to enable the Desktop Tool is confusing to say the least. It is written as;
"To enable 'Desktop Tool', show context menu on task bar and select 'Toolbars' -> 'QT Desktop Tool'."
In hindsight it does make sense but initially I just couldn't figure it out. In my opinion the below would make it easier to understand;
"To enable 'Desktop Tool', right-click on taskbar to show context menu and select 'Toolbars' -> 'QT Desktop Tool'."
UPDATE: sorry it doesn't crash if the file is too big, this is a handling error with my copy of windows itself. I have the functionality I was looking for working now.
To summarise;
Issues:
- The above clerical issue
- WEBM files don't work
- Recent Files in 'Desktop Tool' don't have a preview tooltip
- No shortcut key for 'Desktop Tool'
- Native Taskbar Toolbars don't have a preview tooltip
Again thanks for all your help, and have a wonderful week!
Sorry if I made you read too much.

I checked those settings right after I posted, so not sure if it is right or not but see above. All so as you can see in the file manager previews work. I'm really lost on what you mean by desktop tool though. As you say to double click in your previous post, I even googled the term the first time you used it and came up blank. Do you mean the default right-click menu as I've never seen a folder view in such context menu nor any context menu in windows aside from the taskbar toolbars.
Thanks for bearing with me. And if indeed this is an oversight or bug as you phrased it I'd love to see this feature make it into a future update.
