How to install and use plugins

Dear Sir or Madam,
It is clear using this software that the author of the software is a genius. The software is incredibly powerful, easy and intuitive to use, and much better than the efforts of heaven knows how many programmers and how much money at Microsoft.
But users like me are not geniuses.
We need a little more help.
The How to Geek gives us enough information to use the software (although probably we could do much better).
BUT
how do we install plugins?
what do they do?
Please just give us enough clues so we can use your
wonderful work.
